Children and radiation
The nuclear power plant in Fukushima has now been upgraded to level 7, the highest level possible on the alert system. It is on par with Chernobyl and is expected to exceed it with the amount of radiation it is releasing and will continue to release. The biggest concern now besides contaminated food is the cumulative radiation load. Radiation is now showing up, not only in air, but also in tap water, milk and is expected to show up in a variety of food products soon. Children must not be exposed to this as it will produce great harm to them. Ingested radiation is much more dangerous than airborne radiation and children are especially susceptible to it.
The best thing to do is to avoid food products that might be contaminated. Buy from a different source or get them from a different region of the country. Also, a maintainence level of iodine is useful for minimizing exposure to radiation. Brown rice, strawberries, seafood (Atlantic), kelp, etc. are good sources of natural iodine.
